I was surprised to see my birthday plastered over street signs in Salta, so I asked a policeman why it was a significant date.It turns out it was the day in 1813 when the Spanish were defeated at the Battle of Salta, giving the Argentines control of the north of the country.
And I thought it was just a personal welcome...
